LAS VEGAS
A RESIDENT'S PERSPECTIVE

Ahh, Las Vegas.... Nicknamed "The Entertainment Capital of the World" (one of many nicknames), this city is one of the most visited destinations in the world... and not without reason!
This city of almost two million people was named by Spanish pioneers, founded by Mormon settlers, made popular by casinos established by the mob, expanded during the housing boom of the 1990's and early 2000's, and today is one of the most incredible cities on Earth. If you have never been here, it almost can't be described.

If you have never been here, it almost can't be described.

Imagine yourself here for one day: You wake up to (what else) Katy Perry's "Waking up in Vegas." You're fired up for your day when you get a phone call telling you to get downstairs for breakfast. Because you have such a huge day planned, you load up on nutrition at one of Vegas' numerous buffets. After polishing off a sampling of breakfast foods from all over the world, you and your friends (who are always in town because, let's face it, everyone will want to visit you) head over to the Stratosphere to do the SkyJump, a cable guided freefall from the 108th floor. After that, you decide to burn off some of those calories from breakfast and head out for a jog down one of the most famous streets in the world, the Las Vegas Strip. There is no better way to take in the sights of the street than on foot and early in the morning, you'll have plenty of company as the strip is a very popular running spot for tourists and locals alike.
After a quick shower, you arrange a tour through the Mob Experience at the Tropicana where actors recreate the early days of Vegas, depicting how things really were in the good ol' days of Vegas. After your tour, it's time to enjoy one of the best things about Vegas, the food. Our city is world renowned for its restaurants and you can find them scattered throughout the whole city, not just on The Strip. Both Henderson and Summerlin (Vegas' two largest suburbs) have plenty of great dining.
Following a great lunch, there's no better way to relax than by lounging at one of the city's incredible pools. Every major hotel seems to be in competition with one another to build a bigger, better, more luxurious pool than their neighbor and we reap all the benefits! Locals are welcome at nearly all of the pools in the Valley.
Now that you've soaked up some rays in one of the United States sunniest cities its time to head indoors to do some shopping. The strip is teeming with high end shops, boutiques, malls and outlet stores.

Yes, Las Vegas has been called "The Entertainment Capital of the World," "Sin City," "Glitter Gulch," "Lost Wages" and more.
But we just call it "home."
