Social EM MS4 Elective

SOCIAL EMERGENCY MEDICINE ELECTIVE

The UNLV Department of Emergency Medicine is offering a 4-week elective focusing on social emergency medicine. This 4-week elective will be offered once each spring for 4th year medical students applying to emergency medicine, with preference given to students from groups that are underrepresented in medicine. The elective will consist of shifts in the emergency department, dedicated didactics focusing on social issues in emergency medicine, shadowing of department social workers, participation in community service event, and completion of either a lecture or project addressing these issues. EM residents actively participate in giving lectures and supervising students in the department.

Participants of the Social Emergency Medicine Elective will be awarded a $200 scholarship to be used towards ERAS fees when applying for EM residency and will also be awarded a one year student subscription to EMRA. All funds and subscriptions will be directly given to the student through the UNLV EM residency program.

Interested students can apply at the link below. Drs. Jordana Haber and Matt Horbal serve as directors. Questions may be addressed to jordana.haber@unlv.edu or matthew.horbal@unlv.edu.
