HOW TO APPLY

​The UNLV/UMC Emergency Medicine Fellowship Program is a part of the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). Our program takes applications via the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). If you are interested in applying to our fellowship program, you will need to apply through ERAS application process.

2. Must be ACGME emergency medicine/pediatrics board eligible/certified 
3. Applications can be submitted starting early July
4. Fellowship match results available December

NUTS & BOLTS

The UMC Pediatric Emergency Department at the Children's Hospital of Nevada has 20 beds and an annual volume of over 26,350 visits last year. It is the only Level II Pediatric Trauma Center in the state of Nevada, and the only pediatric emergency department in Nevada staffed 24/7 with Board Certified pediatric emergency medicine physicians. Children's Hospital of Nevada is the main pediatric teaching facility for residents from the UNLV School of Medicine, including programs in emergency medicine, pediatrics, and family medicine. Fellows also spend time at Sunrise Children's hospital pediatric emergency department 1 month every year to see how different departments function.

Weekly Conference

Fellows' conference is protected time held every Thursday and consists of board review/prep, monthly simulation, skills/procedure workshops, ultrasound practice, journal review and case presentations. Presentations are from PEM fellows, PEM attendings, and guest lecturers outside of our department. We have regular "combined" conferences with the Emergency Medicine residency as well as the Pediatric residency. Fellows also have the opportunity to teach medical students and residents. 

Extra-Curricular Activities

Not only do we have a robust clinical and didactic training, but here in the entertainment capital of the world we are privileged to be able to learn outside the walls of the hospital and enjoy all the vibrant city of Las Vegas has to offer! We participate in event medicine (Super Bowl, F1, EDC, Raiders and Knights games), rural outreach, and wilderness medicine. We also take the 5th Thursday of the month (when applicable) to get together for a non-didactic gathering and explore all the city has to offer! 

Founder

The Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship was founded in 2020 by Dr. Jay Fisher. His passion for teaching was only exceeded by his love of providing the best care possible to the children of Las Vegas. He has since retired and moved out of Nevada, however his legacy of energy, optimism, and kindness continues to define the foundation of our PEM fellowship. With a foundation of compassion, we strive to provide the most up to date, evidence based medicine to help sick kids get back to doing what they do best, being kids!
