SKI PATROL

LAS VEGAS SKI & SNOWBOARD RESORT

Picture
The Department of Emergency Medicine has been involved with ski patrol on an official basis since 2007. Believe it or not, we are within a 1-hour drive of the nearest ski area! As Medical Director of Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort's mountain patrol, Ketan Patel, M.D., provides oversight and approval of the on-the-hill medical protocols. Additionally, he facilitates the annual patroller Outdoor Emergency Care Technician certification and recertification process. He and our residents also serve as a volunteer members of Mountain Patrol.

Mountain Patrol has always been very inviting toward resident involvement to provide prehospital, on-the-hill experience. Through the years, several residents have become certified in Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) and have served as volunteer patrollers. In addition, Mountain Patrol has been gracious in lending their expertise with our "Survivor: Las Vegas" wilderness medicine rotation by providing instruction in the areas of snow safety, avalanche rescue and environmental emergencies.
