Information

The Department of Emergency Medicine operates a robust Research Assistant program, with over 30 Research Assistants actively participating.  The program provides a supportive role for the multiple research projects of Emergency Medicine faculty and residents. The program is comprised of volunteers, most of whom are enrolled in college pre-professional courses and interested in pursuing careers in healthcare.

​All Research Assistants participate alongside providers in a clinical setting  in a supportive role, while interacting with patients and completing research objectives in a caring and professional demeanor. 

Objectives

• Enrollment of subjects in active research studies
• Abstraction of data from clinical records per individual study protocols
• Development of study databases and data dictionaries
• Maintenance of studies and compliance with IRB/HIPAA regulations
• Attendance at weekly shifts (4 hour minimum) & mandatory monthly staff meetings

Recruitment cycles for the program are typically held during the Spring and Fall semesters of each year.
