SOCIAL EMERGENCY MEDICINE ELECTIVE

The UNLV Department of Emergency Medicine is offering a 4-week elective focusing on social emergency medicine. This 4-week elective will be offered once each spring for 4th year medical students (July-September) applying to emergency medicine, with preference given to students from groups that are underrepresented in medicine. The elective will consist of shifts in the emergency department, dedicated didactics focusing on social issues in emergency medicine, shadowing of department social workers, participation in community service event, and completion of either a lecture or project addressing these issues. EM residents actively participate in giving lectures and supervising students in the department.
